A national program created to nurture the Canada's next generations of fashion designers, the Mercedes-Benz StartUp initiative has been developed by Mercedez-Bens Canada Inc., IMG Fashion and the Fashion Design Council of Canada (FDCC).
The 2012 Ottawa edition of the Mercedes-Benz StartUp was held at Ogilvie Motors on St. Laurent and was well-attended by prestigious members of the media, industry experts, photographers and the city's top fashionistas. Down to 6 from 10 up and coming Canadian fashion designers who presented their collection to a national panel of judges at the Chateau Laurier the night before, the styles were as varied as the competition was fierce.
In the end, all six competitors gave an outstanding performance that not one but two designers were declared winners of the Mercedes-Benz StartUp Ottawa Edition: fast rising fashion star Caitlin Power and crowd and media favourite Milan-trained/Toronto-based menswear designer Christopher Bates, who will advance to the national finals at the World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto. And if that's not a huge opportunity by itself, the winner will also land a major editorial spread at Fashion Magazine and a chance to be shot in the limelight. Stay tuned for the front row photos, the behind the scenes and of course, the results of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz StartUp Finals.
