Fashion and Style: Not So Little Black Dress

There's a very good reason why Little Black Dresses or LBDs if you will are very much celebrated in the style world. Notice I didn't say fashion world?

Yes, LBDs are indeed the most versatile and classic piece of garment than can occupy real estate in every woman's closet but let's face it, it's not exactly breaking any new grounds in fashion.

It has, however, save me in so many occasions - saved me a tremendous amount of time and made me instantly appropriate for whatever event I was at.

To make your Little Black Dress even more stellar than it already is, here's a few things to keep in mind to maximize the sartorial power of  this little pretty black thing:

Dress according to your body type

Taking into account your body type - curvy, apple-shaped, pear, boyish figure or petite - thoughtfully choose a silhouette that flatters your feature. Curvy types should opt for form-fitting dresses, petite types should choose knee-length ones so as not to overwhelm their figures and boyish types should try to create a feminine curve on their lower half with fuller skirt options.

Classic vs. Trend

Always think long term, versatility and practicality. Polka dots, stripes and leather may be trending this spring but these may not always look good on everyone. Know your personal individual style, pick and choose trends that complements it and if in doubt, always stick with the classic fabric and cuts.

Pop of Colour

We all know colour blocking is THE trend of the season but if you are someone who is a little afraid of colours, take baby steps and try adding just little pop of colour here and there. It could be a cheery belt like seen in this outfit with the use of pantone coloured belt from Banana Republic. You can also try to liven up your outfit with a graphic silk scarf, a brightly coloured cardigan or freshen things up with a spring ready vest.

Spend smartly

While it is always wise to go for non-expensive alternatives when it comes to seasonal trends like this year's neons and laces, investing a little bit more on Little Black Dresses that you will end up wearing over and over again is a good investment. Classic cut, quality fabric and impeccable tailoring will guarantee

Accessorize Accessorize Accessorize

Little Black Dresses may not seem as exciting as the new designer pieces strutting the runways of Paris Fashion Week but with the use of accessories: statement necklaces, strands of pearls, unique brooches, brilliant diamond (real or faux) studs, etc. LBDs are transformed into spectacular outfits that are worthy of second and third takes.

So, is there anything more versatile and practical than your Little Black Dress?

I agree with all the tips you've made here! I keep buying not-so-basic LBD's though...I can't resist black lace ones!

Thanks for all the little tips & tricks! I have tons of LBD's in my closet and find they're always easy to turn to cause they're so classic. I'm headed to an LBD event in about a week and think I'll go with a little pop of colour to match :)

Thanks for your kind words on my blog! Following you now :) And hope you can do the same for me! <3
