Today, let’s talk about something really important. Who amongst us haven’t tried a diet or two, exercised like crazy or fasted for a day (in my case, a couple hours max!) in preparation for an important event? I know I have but what I’m talking about is something more serious than that. This issue is close to my heart because of my work as a Yoga Teacher and Fitness Instructor and I also know of people dear to me who are going through these struggles.
Did you know that nearly one in five young women suffering from this disease does not survive? Anorexia and Bulimia are the most common chronic illnesses amongst young women. But serious eating disorders affect not only women as young men represent about 10% of individuals with eating disorders and are more likely to be affected by binge eating disorder.
It is a blessing that Ottawa has Hopewell - a non-profit charitable organization that was created in 1999 by three Ottawa mothers fuelled by a common goal to help their daughters overcome their anorexia. Recognized and supported by the professional community, CHEO and the Ottawa Hospital, the centre has become the place for information and support for those affected by eating disorders: anorexia, bulimia or binge eating.

That is so very interesting and what a great post! That gala sounds really wonderful and I adore your outfit. Im all about stripes those days:) Happy day, darling
Ps: I am hosting a beautiful GIVEAWAY today! Hope you’ll join in :)
Great post! Sounds like a fabulous event..wish I could attend! Totally in love with this outfit!! Love your mix of patterns and colors!
This sounds like an immensely important event, that brings awareness to a dire subject. You're so wonderful for bringing this to the fore, and for supporting important causes and helping utilize your traffic for getting this message out there.
I never dieted or fasted in a way, I just tried to eat more healthily and exercise more (not very good at the moment, though). Any important event... I would carb up (for running races), instead of dieting or fasting.
Anyway, I think I have that skirt. Is it J. Crew? I think I have it in silver/grey.

Every time I think I know you, you do something else that impresses me even more. You are such an incredible human being and one of my favorite people. I have so much respect and admiration for you, I hope you know that!
This outfit is different from your usual but you look just as fantastic in it! I love the black and white stripes with the khaki skirt, the pattern mixing with the plaid and the pop of color in the belt. You really look incredible! I love this!
OK, THIS is my new fave outfit on you! It's a casual departure from your normally more trim and modern style, and I love it!
Hopewell sounds like a great cause and fantastic event!
A couple tickets still left if you call Hopewell TODAY and drop off your check (or cash) for the tickets before close of biz. Call Hopewell 613-241-3428. Great event, great cause (and great band too -- Showtime Party Band, whoo hoo!)
Amazing outfit, love the pattern mixing. Looking fab dear!
You are such an inspiration and its great that you are promoting such a worthy event! I would love to attend but unfortunately I'm in work meetings all weekend! Thanks for sharing- I have struggled with body dysphoria and many of my friends and family members have fallen victim to the unrealistic media images of super skinny models. You look incredible- these pictures are super professional! xo Em
How awesome! I wish I could attend, but obviously I don't live in the area. I've done so much research on eating disorders--especially bulimia--and have struggled with bulimia and binge eating a bit myself. Sounds like a great cause.
P.S. Love your outfit, especially the pop of brightness the belt brings out!
You have the prettiest hair EVER. :)
great post and thanks for increasing awareness of this issue via your blog as well.
as for your outfit, i'm loving that red belt with the stripes!
cute and little
come join the color brigade!
thank you for this informative post. i feel sorry for people who have eating disorders and i do hope that those who are suffering from such disorders seek immediate help.
anyway, i love how casual and trendy your outfit looks! i also love how you mixed the patterns. maybe i should try this too. =)
I'm loving your very preppy look, and I hope you have a great time at the gala - i think it's great to celebrate ourselves, just as we are.
Gorgeous outfit! You look great! And what a worthy cause to support.
I back this cause..because I think this disorder is really common and some people really need the help...btw great outfit you are working those stripes!
xx

Gogeous outfit!
Adore that belt!

Miss Neira
that sounds like a great event for a worthy cause. young girls need a place like this
Thank you for sharung! As you know I struggle with an eating and body dysmorphic disorder. I've spent so many years in silence because I felt like it wasn't an issue that needed to be addressed. That no one would understand or care. It's when people talk openly about how it's a disease and there is help/treatment that encourages seeking that help. For me, I know if I didn't have the push and support from others, I would be hiding under my sweaters just eating diet toast and tea.
You look beautiful btw!
What a great project. I wish you well, and I hope a lot of people come. It's so easy to get sucked into diet traps. There is a big difference between eating healthy, and not eating. Eating disorders are very serious, and I wish more people would understand that.

Thank you for this post! Unfortunately eating disorders are so "common" theses days, it's great that there's such a charity event that makes people more aware of them.

This is Such a great post. Thank you for sharing it. Just the other day I was watching a show called what is eating you. Which is about people who have eating disorders and think nothing is wrong with them. Which I know for my struggle with weight. When I was at my lost 98lbs. That was my wake up call that I had to do something to change it. Which i did but sadly fall back in to it last year from to much stress but now I'm back to being health again.
Sorry to write so much.
Also you outfit is cute.

Great post, its so eye opening when you realize how some people struggle, esp when we have so much been fed to us about weight ideals.
Love you purse...Roots?
Firs, I love the orange belt with the tan skirt and striped shirt. Very nice.
I wish I was in the area, I would so buy a ticket. As a former dancer, I know all to well about disordered eating and the damage it can do both physically and emotionally. It sounds like a great cause.

This is really cool of you to post about this, what a great cause! Thank you so much for your comment yesterday, it was one of my favorites EVER: "You've got to be the chicest school counsellor I've ever seen!" You made my day, for reals. :)

Marilou-Love the mix of fashion and great causes like this one. You look fabulous...completely adore this look. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!
First off, I love the way you wore the belt over the waistband of your skirt, and then transformed the outfit by un-tucking the sweater and wearing the belt over the waist. The pop of color is great!
I had no idea that you were a yoga/fitness instructor, and this post was definitely eye opening for me. Thank you for bringing such awareness and sharing such a great cause.
