Much to the annoyance of E, a lot of friends and not to mention my mother, you can always find me on my smart phone. I know there are certain moments where it's absolutely unacceptable but even at the dinner table sometimes, you'll find me multi-tasking away with a laptop on the right, an iPad on the left and my trusty iPhone! I log on the computer as soon as I get home from the work, which is a mere 15-20 minutes walk. Pathetic isn't it?
Please, I'm no neurosurgeon, the next Anna Wintour or the Publicist of the President, I do not need to be constantly wired as I am in no danger of running to a hospital to perform a life-threatening brain surgery or in the speed dial of the Press Secretary to conduct some damage control for The Man. I suspect that the reason I am incessantly connected is simply because this behaviour is not only accepted nowadays but it's almost expected. Let's take this run of the mill conversation for example:
Friend - Hey ML, how are you?
ML - (without looking up from the iPhone) I am so busy!
Friend - So, how was your weekend?
ML - Busy.
When did we become so obsessively immersed in technology that we are so un-present to the present moment? We are always online or using some type of technology that we end up devoting less than our hundred percent. Perhaps I can change that in the New Year.
So, what about you dear friends, what type of technology are you always hooked up to?
Wait, hold that thought while I check my Blackberry.

So true, I hate it when I go out for a meal with a friend or my boyfriend and then it ends up being minimal conversation except to pop our heads up once in a while to discuss what we're looking at! It's sad really... almost makes me wish I was born in a different era. I think I will make this a New Year's Resolution too!
Thanks for the inspiration and Merry Christmas!

OMG, I just recognized myself in this post hahaha. I´m the same nutter when it comes to technology. I have one cell phone and a blackberry and then there is my work laptop and my private laptop which I always turn on as soon as I come home from work and rarely turn it off before midnight.
Oh my, we are bad! But what else should we do in the evenings... watch telly?
My question is why are you up at 3:00 a.m.? It's a work night! ;-p I'm attached to my iPhone, there's a panic when I don't have it: music, Internet, Facebook, IM, phone... And more... It's sad how we have developed this tech need. But I can't see myself decreasing the use. Over weekends or other breaks I'll break from it but that's the most I can do. There's a reason why they call it crackberry.
Hello ML!
Technology has taken over my life too. I'm hooked on my computer now that i have a blog. I check it whenever i can! I get withdrawal symptoms if i can't get to one in the space of an hour hehhee. How did we ever manage to live without the internet 15 years (or so) ago??
I love my Iphone. Its the best. Hubby is always telling me to get off of it.

Hi, my name is Jessica and I'm an iPhone addict. ;-) I could barely put it away at Thanksgiving, despite my mother's disappointed look!
Hahaha..I have a Blackberry, and its never more than 6" from my side......such is life and the technology wave, right?
Love your sparklies:)
Hugs!!

That big bracelet in your first pic is gorgeous!
Though I hate the act of traveling, I do appreciate (a little bit) those cramped dry hours on a plane because my technology must be off! Even with the free wifi nowadays, I keep my laptop zipped and break out a good ole book or mag!
Studies are showing that we, as humans, are naturally attracted to the kinds of distraction that these items provide, so our use of them has an scientific explanation; it isn't a personal thing.
I find that, while fun and useful at times, it's also equally important to turn them off and check out for periods. We need to take breaks. Also, I like sustained periods of concentration for, e.g., reading a good book and these interfere with that. To each, her own!
Heee I think many of us are like that! I probably converse more with my blogger friends during the day than I do real life people! Man, it's crazy how we are so addicted!
I'm kind of old school when it comes to technology. I turn off my phone when I go out with friends, I don't use the internet on my Blackberry and I never brought a laptop to University classes. But Blogging is an obsession that consumes time in the virtual world. I try to balance it out because I think it is so rude when people are texting when I'm talking to them- it makes you feel boring!
Your jewellery is fab!

I love the sparkles in your outfit!

So true... I'm always hooked to my laptop. Sometimes I wish I lived in the early 1900s before technology of any sort so I can really enjoy life! They say technology has made our lives easier, but it's also made it far more busy and complicated!
Haha, I'm such a cavewoman, I still do not have a smartphone! But part of that is deliberate - I think I'd be addicted to it all the time! I'm sure I'd make it an honorary part of my body the second I get one :)
Haha I suggest to those one who is addicted to their cell phone with partners to call marriage ref on Bravo channel.
This can ruin your concentration when your with someone.
Just like the ad on TV "Really".
oh... I was checking my phone to see if maybe you were calling ME.. hah hah.. I love the first picture.. you are too funny.... I am still new to cell phone/iphone techno and even that I have a blog is pretty amazing.. I held out on technology for YEARS!! and now that I am connected I love it!!!
As long as you love the busy stuff you are involved in thats not so bad.. its people that are BUSY and complain as though they didn't create themselves to be busy are the ones that drive me nuts!! LOL
I am always hooked up on my pc..though I´m trying to use it a little bit less...and I only get lost on my blackberry if I am really bored ha
xx

this annoys me so much. I dont have a fancy phone so maybe I just dont know what I am missing but when I see a friend, I want to actually see them and talk to them, not the top of their head. Oh well I guess this is the future :)
Ha - I wake up at 4am, roll over, grab my iPhone, check my mail, blog and facebook and then roll back over. I have a feeling I'm in good company with the commentors on this post here :)
I'm totally the opposite of you. I don't like talking on the phone or on a cell. I need to look a person in the eyes. Am I the only one left? LOL! XOXO
Ugh, I am the same way. When I used to work at my college newspaper, I was always on my computer because I was waiting for stories to get emailed to me, or I was looking for story ideas. Add to that always talking to people on Gchat or Facebook. I think the only time I wasn't in front of a screen was when I was asleep, and even then I slept with my phone. Nowadays I am not as wired, but sometimes I have to force myself to experience things outside.
Hope you are well and having a great start to your Christmas week, ML! :)

So nice to meet you!
I am always tied to my computer!
My hubby and I were making our resolutions for the up-coming year, and less blog-time and more "real" time is one of mine !
I love the shoe cabinet!!!!
What a guy!!!
xXx

My iPod.. I don't know what I would do without him/her/it/I don't know it's genderrr. xD It's in my car, on my bike, and everywhere. <3 Need mah muusics. ;D
I know the feeling.
I wake in the morning and before anything else, I'm checking my emails via iphone.
On the way to work, I'm reading blogs. Every break during my workday, rather than stepping away from the computer, I stay and am constantly feeling like I need to catch up with everything.
I wonder how long I could go being disconnected?
Chic on the Cheap
I'm totally guilty of always being on my blackberry. It's very addicting. I even text while I cross the street, and sometimes attempt to do it while I drive. Ugh. I need to get off this addiction
xo Sherrie
Hola! I LOVE that bracelet!
I'm not going to lie, I'm one of those people who shake their heads at Blackberry/Iphone addicts like yourself, lol! I like how you openly admit to this addiction though. Recognition is one of the first steps, right? :-)
Call Me Ishmael
LOVE IT, your take on next-gen "hook-ups" is stellar! and the reason i call them hook-ups is bc they are closer to us than the latter sometimes is...oh my! that's bad right?! you are so funny and on point with this post, although i wouldn't call myself completely obsessed with tech (but really like my alloted amount for the day) my boyf is ALWAYS on his iPhone/iPad. even late at night, i'll awake to a soft white glow under the sheets...ergggg, yes that's him, plugging into the cyber realm again. oh boy, the world we live in hey? ♥
pea ess: thanks for your comment lovely but i didn't quite get the question. what buttons did you mean?
My iPhone. Can't live without it.
The Cheeky Cafe
you make me laugh but i know what you mean. sometimes it can be so frustrating though for someone to not even be paying any attention to you when you've taken the time to be in front of them. beautiful accessories in the last picture but put down the phone ML, put it down!!! haha :)
lol. I can totally relate to this post. I'm on the internet all day at work, always have my iPhone by my side, and my lap top is the first thing I run to when I get home from work.
I love this because I am the exact same way, and it makes me feel like less of a freak when I hear others doing this, too. So thanks for that. :) I feel like we are besties already.
xoxo.

I'm on my blackberry all the time too, but then again I work for blackberry, so... lol
hope you have a great holiday!
im addicted to my macbook. its a serious problem. lol.
Nice jewelry. :)
http://initialed.blogspot.com
I just commented on another blogger's post saying how much technology is such a catch-22. I can't survive without my baby macbook... or my blackberry. But, truth be told, I actually am not much of a phone person, so I guess I wouldn't cry too much if I had to part with my phone for a bit? Okay, that's a lie now that I REALLY think about it. In college, when my phone would no longer charge, I begged my mom to ship me out a new phone the next day! Terrible!
Stop by soon!

OMG! I am so horrible to my BF when I am blogging. I have both the laptop and the iPhone going at the same time. I know it upsets him. He doesn't understand that we bloggers are dedicated. If someone emails and needs help or has a question it's number one on my list. He tells me to just stop. I can't stop, I would feel a certain emptiness by just kissing it all away. I love my blog friends. It's all an annoyance to him.
Aren't I cheerful today. Anthro screwed me over on a delivery on my Birthday of all things.
Regardless of that... Please Have a Happy Merry Hols!
LOVEEE the jewelry... and yes, i'm attached to my black berry!!
xx

I love my iphone! And I'm totally attached to it. But to be honest, I think you might be taking your phone love a little too hard - when you're with people, you should BE with them! Multi-tasking is all well and good but c'mon now!!
xo, Ashley
I'm definitely on my laptop a great deal of the time. And I have an android phone that's also along for the ride as well. Hazard of modern living I suppose... :)
I was so glad to take a break from technology for a week or so over Christmas. But the second I returned home, I was checking my iPhone every 10 minutes, tweeting, reading blogs, looking at facebook updates, checking email... it never ends. I think I just need my iPhone programmed in my brain.
fabulous jewelry i love them!!i have an issue with rings etc i just love them<3
http://inablondeworld.blogspot.com/ check my blog out hope you find it interesting:) kisses xx
I could definitely relate to you, honey! My phone is now definitely part of my life, and I can't live without it (seriously). Just recently, I bought this new Blackberry for my business, and what can I say, it's simply the best! Aside from it's very cute color and design, it's also got cool and sophisticated features. LOVE LOVE! <3
