What and Where

It's not that I have nothing to say, it's just that I don't have a lot of time to say it. As some of you may know, I am away for business again, as Becca mentioned: oh its not as glamorous sometimes! (I personally do not enjoy the extra pounds gained, argh! I so wish I got mad skills in photoshop, all the photos here are unsophisticated-ly untouched.) This time, I didn't have the foresight to plan ahead and asked my blogger friends who sweetly and kindly volunteered to guest blog for Twenty York Street, silly me!

I just want you to know, I've missed you, sorry if I haven't visited your blogs. But - I haven't forgotten about our deal.. give-away(s), eh?

Well, how about we play a game today. Guess which one of these items is THE ONE! In case you are worried, please be assured that you will be receiving a brand spanking new version of that item!

Oh but the special give-aways doesn't stop there... stay tuned for Feature Friday! But for now, happy guessing my lovelies!

Black trench coat - Old Navy
Gold/silver accessories - Banana Republic, Gift from E
Black patent pumps - Guess
Grey tights - GAP

What and Where

I am away for business again this week but stay tuned, there are some major give-aways coming up and really exciting posts! I wanted the Special Give-Away to be held in honour of my 50 Followers however, it seems that I have missed that and now, I just have to pick another number, coz' you know, its cool like that, so how about 75 Followers?

I know, I know I've been teasing you about this give-away (which in fact are give-aways!) but I've just really been so so busy at work(s) that I haven't had time to properly put them together. Tonight, I left the office after 7:30 pm, dropped off my cra.. stuff at home and went to dinner with E and his best friend Vil. V has always been into photography (both of them actually) and have been incredibly good at it but I was told he is presently taking an advance level photography course and is in need of subjects for his assignment this week: shooting perfect strangers in the Market.

Funny, I don't think I've ever been asked to have my photographs taken this much since I've started the blog. V didn't even know I had one until tonight but after a huge dinner of spaghetti and meatballs, I was no Giselle Bundchen so E was tonight's star of the show and our gracious server who was more than willing to pose for the assignment.

Back to the give-aways - what I can tell you right now is that Twenty York Street have partnered with really amazing designers and with the biggest fashion events in the city!

Here, you can see J more, yes?

I Love Your Blog Award!

Remember Red? I'm Black!

Preview for tomorrow's outfit post.

A couple weeks ago when I was in the middle of stress and away from home, I received a message that instantly brightened my day. It's not always easy when you are travelling, some things tend to fall though the cracks and one of that is the blog. With wi-fi issues to unpredictable work meetings, I still wanted to post blog-worthy entries but somehow I was thinking if somebody out there was even reading it. It turns out, yes, there are! And there are lots judging from the sweet comments you guys leave here, the number of followers who have been so kind to come back and the awards that have been passed to Twenty York Street!

If you haven't been to this amazing girl's blog, you have to go and visit asap. Hers is one of the most awarded blogs I've ever seen and that's no wonder, she is smart as she is stylish. She is versatile as she is current with fashion trends and events. Her talent goes beyond the depths of her closet and she's got the pink thumbs of fashion DIY. I want to thank the beautiful Anna Belle (her name is literally Beautiful Anna in French!) of The Owl's Closet for passing me the I Love Your Blog Award!

We (J is too) are very honoured and excited and it is with great pleasure that this Award is being passed on to these fantastic blogs:

Melissa of A Working Mom's Closet

Rebecca of See You in Sweden

Becca and Ashley of Free Honey

Carrie of This Free Bird

Jen of Vintageglamzz

Elaine of Curls and Pearls

Lisa of Respect the Shoes

Make sure you visit these incredible ladies and their respective blogs and let me know what you think, I'm sure you'll love 'em as much as I do!

Twenty York Loves...

Say Hello to: Lorena

Sometimes you meet people in the most random ways or you meet through unexpected circumstances. Either way, I've met this featured stylista last year and I've always admired her style ever since the first day I've welcomed her to our home. She brings with her the passion and determination of her mixed heritage, she carries herself with poise and grace, she exudes wisdom beyond her age and trust me I've seen it, she's a got a closet-full of fashion goodies.

Alors,  je voudrais vous présenter the always chic and stylish Lorena! A little cute birdie also told me she is celebrating her birthday all week this week, please join me in wishing her a very Happy Birthday!

On Style and Fashion...

What and who influences your style?

Well, my grandmother was a seamstress. She used to make ball and wedding gowns and she had a very impressive wardrobe herself. She was fashionable and elegant til the day she died at 84. My mom had a collection of high heels that would challenge Imelda Marcos'. They were definitely the instigators that implanted this "clothaholic" seed in me. For a time, when I was younger I used to follow Charlotte Casiraghi's European style, you know so effortless and chic. But I also take cues from fashionable friends. I observe a lot and copy certain things from this and that person, then I combine the different elements in a way that would suit me.

What's your favorite outfit you've ever worn?

My wedding dress, hands down. I wish I could wear it everywhere.

Any childhood or early fashion memory?

Of course, I grew up surrounded by women who could saw and that were very much into fashion. I especially remember my other grandma's collection of hats from the fifties, as well as her furs and jewelry. I used to play with some of them.

On Passion and Career Aspirations...

What would be your ideal job?

One in which I could showcase my showmanship. I've always loved speaking, dancing and singing in front of people. I'm not afraid of the spotlight. I also like entertaining, hosting parties and cooking for people. So maybe hosting a cooking show in Food Network, like that of Giada di Laurentiis would be great for me.

What gets you going, interest, passion?

I like the Arts, Politics and any intellectual endeavor. I am passionate about quality and talent. I like good food, good music, good films, beautiful clothes and surroundings, but most important of all , I love having caring and genuine friends.

I'm nosy, what do you really do for a living?

Right now? I work for a boutique, teach Spanish and do voice acting while I finish school.

On Lovin' Life…

What 3 things do you wish someone had told you when you were younger?

That I am capable of achieving what I desire. The truth about marriage and relationships, you know, that they take hard work and that life is not perfect.

What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done?

I can't tell.

Describe your perfect day/perfect vacation?

A perfect vacation would be in Europe traveling by car, hopping from little town to little town with a bunch of good friends and trying out food and wine. Also Bali would be amazing.

3 Things I can't live without:
1) Family and this includes my husband, and friends.
2) Open and bright spaces. I hate confinement. I love balconies and big windows.
3) Music.

Fill in the blanks…

Whenever I'm bored I usually play music and dance by myself and I facebook (shame).

Don't tell my husband but I hate his hats, shhhh...

If I were deserted on an island, I would pack my iPod and my laptop  and would call Rob.

If I had superpowers, it would be going back in time to fix mistakes.

I wish Twenty York Street asked me about I think all the questions are great!

Editor's Note: Photo Credits goes to J, it was a fantastic photo shoot, gracias Lorena! And don't forget to follow Twenty York Street in Twitter: @20YS.

Five Fall Essentials with Sidewalk Chalk

Hello, all you lovely Twenty York readers! It's JoAnn from Sidewalk Chalk, and Marilou asked me to share with you what I'm most excited to wear this autumn, now that it's officially the season. A lot of them are a mix of things I already own, but I hope to challenge myself to try new versions of them, too.

So without further ado, here are my Five Essentials:

Boots

Here in Georgia, the weather is so warm (mid-90s this week!) that the weather doesn't turn until about mid-November, and even afterwards it's a very mild winter. So I didn't jump into getting boots until last year, because for practicality, I've never really needed them. Now, I know why all you colder-climate gals love them so much: they're usually very chic, go with everything and, because they extend from your toes to your calves, they really can be a statement piece to any outfit. I plan on experimenting this year with different lengths, and I'm going to use them to dress down my cocktail dresses.

Anoraks

I love the military themes in the new anorak styles and I love how their lightweight, weatherproof material makes them practical. I plan on using mine by treating it like a sweater and belting it over dresses to break up their sweet details.

Scarves

The lightweight versions are often worn yearround, but autumn is the time to really experiment with heavier knit and chunkier versions. I love using scarves to add color, pattern and personality to an outfit. This autumn I want to try wear several at once by twisting them into one giant scarf.

Lightweight dresses

I'm a pretty big dress-wearer, and I don't expect to stop when the weather gets colder (I very rarely wear pants or jeans). Thought this is a summer staple, I plan on extending the life of my floatier pieces by wearing sweaters to warm them up, and boots to keep them more casual. This fall, I think I'll be trying more prairie styles – their muted colors often lend well to experimenting with bolder accessories (like scarves!).

Leather skirts

The rich, heavy fabric makes leather a perfect addition for autumn layering. I'm usually not drawn to leather pieces, but I'm obsessed with my thrifted leather pencil skirt because I feel like the length is appropriate for everyday wear, and can be used to dress up t-shirts and be layered over floaty dresses.

What are you most looking forward to wearing this fall? Don't forget to check out what Marilou's Five Essentials are over at Sidewalk Chalk!
xoxo,

JoAnn

My French Connection

Outfit details

Red trench coat - Old Navy
Black cardigan - H&M, Bought by Nat
Silk top - Banana Republic
Silk brocade skirt - Banana Republic
Textured tights - Tristan
Gold/black necklace - French Connection
Black patent leather pumps - Guess, Gift from E

What and Where

E is French, wait let me clarify that, E is very, very French. That means he has that joie de vivre and the je ne sais quoi that the French are known for. He appreciates the finer things in life, be it good food, good wine, incredible architecture, fantastic art and designs and he is pretty avant-garde with his taste in haute couture. Not that I am in any way high fashion but I do like to try unique and different items sometimes or experiment with known style clashes. That is why I was pretty surprised when he exclaimed, after seeing me wear my newly purchased golden balls necklace from French Connection for the first time, is it Christmas already? (Btw, my Mom made the exact same comment a few hours later! Hmmnn... I suppose fashion is not really in the genes after all.)

Fortunately for him, I love the necklace very much to ignore that comment. I thought it went well with today's outfit and worn over a jacket, it truly makes a statement (and no, it doesn't say Merry Christmas Ho Ho Ho! Does it?). I have been a bit nervous to show you my new change yesterday but I am very pleased to hear that you are lovin' the look too. I'm also very happy that you are lovin' the Getting Ready photo shoot we did with Davida! This is the first day I wore a fall-appropriate outfit (well, all the pieces except the trench are really summer items but hey, add tights to anything and you're check-stamped for fall!), I thought I'd pre-empt the changing of the season as autumn usually scares the suede booties out of me. I feel like I don't know how to dress warmly or chicly enough for chilly days, I love comfort and convenience and though I love the luxe feel of sweaters and coats, I am terribly scared of frumps and bulges.

How about you? How do you usually prepare for fall my lovelies? Oh, that reminds me, please stay tuned for an upcoming post, a collaboration with JoAnn of Sidewalk Chalk that you may find really helpful: My Five! No, not the cellphone plan, I meant, the Five Essentials to Fall post!

Getting Ready

Black and grey shift dress - Banana Republic
Disco balls earrings - Guess
White gold floral bangle - Banana Republic, Gift from Em
Patent leather sandals - Michael Kors, Gift from J

What and Where

This Fall has been unusually rainy and chilly that on the night that we decided to shoot J (yes The J) for his upcoming big reveal and interview, it was pouring cats and dogs that we had to shoot outside for a couple minutes and ran in for cover. These amazing photos were taken by my very good and long time friend, D, of Davida Ocran Photography and based on these and many others we have taken of both J and I, she's got an incredible eye for details, composition and colours. I am especially impressed by the fluidity of her shots (though I wouldn't say it was easy, she was definitely a pro and a strict one at that) and her ability to capture movements so that her photos tell a story.

These were taken at my lobby just before we head for dinner at the Khao Thai Restaurant, which serves really delicious and authentic Thai dishes. Some of you guys have e-mailed me saying you've missed my outfit posts (here's one for you Melissa) and I think I do too! I really do love these photos and I'm very happy that D decided to pursue her passion as she is truly a natural in photography.

I do have some very exciting news to share with you over the next couple of days as I've received such pleasant news from my blogger friends at the fantastically-run The Owl's Closet and from the super talented Chas of From Denim to Dessert. I also want to thank the very stylish Julie of Pop Champagne (she runs a highly fashionable and entertaining blog) for helping me and The Busy Neighbor make an important charity event happen.

I will tell you more about these later and I also want to tell you about a little change I made this weekend, I've been thinking about it for so long and last Saturday, I decided to just take the courage and do it, let's see tomorrow if you notice what I mean!
